  1. Excellent, thanks so much. I lived in Bell lane 1957 to 1973 and have happy memories of playing on Delves common. I now live in South Australia.

      • Yes John I recall it and I just reread it. There is absolutely nothing at Walsall in WA. BUT there are other Walsall names in Australia that lead to a connection that you may not be aware of. There is a Walsall Street in Adelaide SA and parallel to it is Holden street. That is a direct connection to Walsall as Holden Cars originated from a saddler in Walsall that moved to Australia in about 1850. Holden later became a GM brand and is now merely a rebadged Opel.

There is another connection from my old school QM. Sir Edwin Thomas born Walsall 1830 migrated to South Australia started a large brewery, went into politics and became mayor of Adelaide.

        Small world!

      • Hello Mike, thanks for your two replies. Think those people that resettled in Walsall WA in the mid 1920s got a bit of a raw deal and the place never really got going. I knew about Sir Edward Holden’s brother going to Australia and being one of the founders of Holdens cars as I wrote about him in one of the Walsall Lives calendars I used to do some years ago. Didn’t know of Walsall St or Holden St in Adelaide though or the brewery founder. Thanks again for the information, regards, John.
